Sergi Tortell

Sergi was born and raised in Barcelona. As a player he grew through the Catalan federation soccer academies, played high school soccer at international level and funded his studies in the Universitat de Barcelona through his soccer playing career in the Catalan first division -

"In Spain there's no such thing as college soccer, it is actually the other way around, with the money you earn through playing soccer you pay your studies in the University".

Sergi finished his soccer career playing in Ireland, where he also started his coaching career.

In Ireland Sergi coached in the DDSL - "the highest level for youth soccer at the time", and started with his coaching education process, completing several licenses provided by the Football Association of Ireland.

In 2016 he moved to California where he joined Albert Puig, former director of the FC Barcelona academy, also known as La Masia.

In Sergi's words - "working with Albert Puig has been the most enlightening time of my coaching career".

Since his arrival to California, Sergi has always been coaching at the Development Academies level, current MLS NEXT. In this period of time he has also completed several coaching education courses and is currently pursuing his USSF B license.
